Healthy News September 2022
An upbeat mindset, good self-care, and pain-lessening treatment is a valuable recipe for spine pain relief. Chiropractic combines them all! A study that observed 740 chronic low back pain patients for a year recorded that those who maintained their pain relief and stated an improved quality of life were also highly confident that they could still participate in activities despite their pain. Those who experienced widespread pain and imagined their pain as the worst ever from which they’d not get over decreased their recovery outcome. Understanding these issues, researchers and your Ashburn and Herndon chiropractor know that realistic expectations must be discussed and understood for optimal, satisfactory clinical outcomes. (1) (For example, 50% relief is good!) Complicating factors like difficult sleep, fatigue, pain, anxiety, depression may affect healing for back pain and neck pain sufferers and must be addressed. We listen thoroughly to and have discussions with our chiropractic patients to handle issues as we advance toward pain relief and a better quality of life. We follow and share the 50% Rule of the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management that establishes reasonable expectations for chiropractic pain relief: 50% relief within a month or so of care without any signs of progressive neurological deficits or other red flags is good improvement. More good news comes from a scoping review of papers about spine-pain related factors that mentioned how many issues are modifiable: smoking, overweight/obesity, negative expectations of recovery, work environment, nutrition, etc. (2) That’s where we act together to maintain your positivity and confidence and form a solid Ashburn and Herndon chiropractic treatment plan for your pain relief!

Ashburn and Herndon CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH:
Consider Inflammation: An Ear Infection/Hearing Loss/Hip Fracture Risk Link
A new study compared those with chronic otitis media to those without. Researchers questioned if chronic otitis media inflammation impacted the body beyond hearing. They found that those with chronic otitis media who had a history of hearing loss are more prone to a increased risk of hip fracture. (3) Another study reported that chronic otitis media was found to be significantly associated with a higher risk of developing ‘sudden sensorineural hearing loss’ that comes on suddenly over a 3 day period. This is often associated with dizziness and ringing in the ears, medicated with antibiotics, and accommodated for with hearing aids or devices for any enduring hearing loss. (4,5) We know inflammation is an enemy when dealing with Ashburn and Herndon back pain and neck pain, and it is seemingly an enemy of ear pain and heightened hip fracture risk, too! Pay attention to hearing issues and inflammation as they develop. We're here to help with chiropractic services! Poulin Chiropractic of Herndon and Ashburn and you make a great team.
